Our process focuses on honouring each individual narrator and their story. We ensure that our interviews are conducted according to a strong and transparent ethical framework, and that narrators participate through a desire to tell their story and with informed consent. Any legal or safety concerns that may be associated with a narrator telling their story are discussed and assessed prior to any interview taking place.
Interviews are an ongoing process – rather than meeting someone just once and “extracting” their story, we try to hold multiple follow up interviews wherever possible. Our emphasis as interviewers is on asking open-ended questions that invite open-ended responses, and on creating a safe space where narrators feel supported and secure to share their stories. We aim to build a relationship of trust with narrators and to include narrators’ friends, advocates, and support network in the project process.
Narrators are free to adopt pseudonyms and other measures to protect their identity, and have the final say over whether and when to publish their story.
