Donna came to Australia as a child with her family by boat from Kurdistan. She was only 13 when they arrived in Australia in 2000. Along with her family, Donna was detained first in Darwin and then at Port Hedland Detention Centre. She is now a non-practicing lawyer and recently completed a Masters of International Relations at Melbourne University.
This is an excerpt of a longer audio story produced by Behind the Wire. Donna’s full story will appear in our book, which will be published in March 2017, by Allen & Unwin. To listen to her complete audio story, come along to a Behind the Wire listening party!
